Slammers look to scrub Rockets’ launch.
Slammers look to scrub Rockets’ launch and the Jammers take on the Blockers in the Stars vs Stripes Expo Bout!
This Saturday, July 23rd, the Turf Wars continue at the Midwest Sports Hockey Complex in Queeny Park as the undefeated Dogtown Rockets look to protect their perfect record against a hot South Grand Slammers squad. The under card bout for the evening is a themed expo bout called Stars vs Stripes.
The evening will start off with a bang as the local ladies of the derby scene take to the track in an expo bout pitting a team filled with jammers going up against a team filled with blockers. This will be an interesting bout as you will see many of these ladies playing in positions they are not normally accustomed to playing. Both of these rosters will be stacked with a lot of talent and it should be very interesting to see who comes out on top. The Stars roster is filled with stars like Downtown Dallis, Smarty McFly and Adderoller while the Stripes will fight back with Grave Danger, Chewblocka and Mayor Francis Slayer. I expect this bout to be a real knock-down drag-out affair as these two teams are filled with players who only have one speed when it comes to derby.
After the ladies are done the South Grand Slammers will take the track to face off against the Dogtown Rockets. The Rockets are currently undefeated with a record of 2 - 0. The last time the Rockets faced the Slammers the Rockets pulled out a win by the score of 138 - 105. However, the Slammers have really pulled it together knocking off the RiverFront Crimes last bout 218 - 103 and have one of the best jammer line-up with Bat Wing returning to action along with Gnat King Kill and the newly added Neil Death Experience. That being said, they are facing a very impressive jammer line-up for the Rockets that features Magnum P.I.M.P., Shanego Fett and High Pains Drifter.
Blocking will be key for both teams as they attempt to contain the powerful opposing jammers. The Slammers will need Double Excel, Sweet Tooth, Percy Control and Inquadable Hulk to be at their best while the Rockets will counter with Wrecking Bill, Zombie Jesus, Kurt Mangle and Specs Offender. Expect to see a lot of bone-crushing hits when these two groups mix it up in the pack. The Slammers will unfortunately be without NoFX-Shun this bout due to a hip injury and it will be interesting to see how the Slammers adjust their blocking rotation to compensate for his loss.
Tickets for this bout are still available at Brown Paper Tickets! If you use coupon code BOGO you can get two tickets for only $10! Ticket sales are open til midnight on Friday.
Be sure to check back early next week for my recap and thoughts on this bout.
See you at the bouts!
