Turf Wars continue with a rematch of the season opener!
This Saturday night at the Midwest Sports Hockey Complex in Queeny Park, the Turf Wars continue as we will see a rematch of the season opener between the South Grand Slammers and the RiverFront Crimes. This should be an exciting bout as the Slammers seek revenge on the team that handed them their first loss of the season in a close 143 - 165 battle. The opening bout for the evening will be another fun expo bout as the Kittens (Under 30) will take on the Cougars (Over 30). These teams will be made up of players from different women’s leagues all over Missouri and Illinois and you will get to see a lot of new faces as many rookies will see action this bout.
Once the fur stops flying between the Kittens and the Cougars, the Slammers will take on the Crimes for our main event of the evening. This will be an interesting rematch as both of these teams have really developed over the past couple months and have become more cohesive units. This is a HUGE bout for both squads because if the Crimes win, they shut the door on the Slammers and secure a spot in the Championship bout against the Rockets; but if the Slammers win, they keep their hopes alive.
The big story though has to be the fact that the Slammers will be without their star jammer and league-leading point scorer as Bat Wing is still recovering from sports-hernia surgery he had a couple weeks ago. The Slammers will definitely miss him as he accounted for a whopping 120 points the last time these two teams met. This means more pressure will be on Gnat King Kill and the newest Slammer Neil Death Experience. Neil was impressive in the B-Keepers’ bout in Springfield last month where he racked up 35 points in only 2 jams. The Slammers blocking has also really improved over the past couple of months as they are getting more comfortable working as a team. The Slammer’s blockers will need to bring their “A” game to as they go up against one of most impressive jamming tandems in the league in Short Knocks and Debaucherous Prime. Short Knocks is coming off an incredible travel team performance last Saturday against the TC Terrors where Knocks led all scoring with 77 points. Debaucherous Prime tallied 38 points of his own against the Terrors. These two have been consistent thorns in the sides of opposing blockers as the last time these two faced the Slammers they combined for 143 points as Debaucherous Prime put up 91 points and Short Knocks put up 52. It should be anyone’s game as these are two very evenly-matched squads. The Crimes blocking will need to be solid if they want to win this one.
Tickets are still available at Brown Paper Tickets until Midnight Saturday morning!
See you at the bouts!
