Rockets look to keep regular-season streak alive against Slammers.

It will be a scorcher both inside and out Saturday night at the Midwest Sports Hockey Complex in Queeny Park as the Rockets look to keep their regular-season unbeaten streak alive against a hungry Slammers squad. The opening bout of the evening will feature the ladies in a battle of good versus evil as the Super Heroes take on the Villains.
The Rockets come into Saturday night’s bout 2-0 and their average margin of victory is a staggering 60.5 points per game. Victories over the Crimes (174 - 104 on 5/19) and the Slammers (144 - 93 on 4/21) have put the Rockets in the driver’s seat and allowed them to secure the first spot in the 2012 Turf Wars Championship bout to be played on September 8th. Since the Rocket’s inception last season they have yet to lose a single regular-season bout and the only blemish on their record came in last years Turf Wars Championship when the Slammers shocked the league and took home the trophy. The Rockets come at you with balance on both offense and defense. With blockers like Wrecking Bill, Zombie Jesus and Specs Offender making holes in the pack for Magnum, P.I.M.P., Shanego Fett and High Pains Drifter, you will need to bring your best game to slow this crew down.
The Slammers come at you with a high-powered offense featuring Bat Wing, Gnat King Kill, Jagged Little Will and Handrail. Couple that offensive power with the likes of Percy Control, Neil Death Experience, Inquadable Hulk and Double Excel and you have a roster of blockers that is one of the most physically punishing line-ups in all of Men’s derby. The Slammers are 2-1 coming into this bout with both of their wins being over the RiverFront Crimes (159 - 123 on 3/24 and 143 - 114 on 6/16) and their only loss coming at the hands of the Rockets that they will face off against on Saturday.
This is going to be one knock-down, drag-out affair as these two teams clash in what will likely be a preview of the 2012 Turf Wars championship. Tickets are still available online (until 5pm Friday, 7/20) at Brown Paper Tickets and will be available at the door.
On July 27th come on down to the Gramaphone for Karaoke night with the GateKeepers. This event will help raise money for the Travel Team and will allow you to force your friends to sing a song or you can pay to bang the gong when someone butchers your favorite tune. Karaoke will last from 7pm - 10pm and then the Chaotic Good will take the stage to rock the house!
Don’t forget that the 2012 Men’s Roller Derby Association Championships will take place right here in St. Louis on October 20th and 21st. Gateway to the Best will feature the top eight teams in the MRDA battling it out at the Midwest Sports Hockey Complex with the last team standing being crowned 2012 MRDA Champions!
