July Skater of the Month: Jagged Little Will

[1 Jul 2012 | No Comment | ]

Jagged Little Will burst onto the GateKeepers’ scene last year and he has been a scoring threat ever since. He makes up for his small size by being incredibly elusive and fast. This combination makes him hard to handle for opposing blockers and a huge asset to the B-Keepers and the South Grand Slammers. Without further ado, here he is, the July skater of the month: Jagged Little Will.

Why did you get into Derby?
I got into derby because dating a derby skater pretty much means a life full of derby anyway.
So, I decided to go ahead and play.

Who do you think has had the most influence on your style of play?
Everyone on the Gatekeepers has had some influence on how I skate. They taught me how to skate and how to play derby.

What skates and wheels do you use?
I skate on Ridell 265′s, Powerdyne Dynapro plates, with Juke Slims 93′s.

What was your favorite moment as a GateKeeper?
The B-Keepers v. ARRG scrimmage. We lost, but, it was the most derby fun I’ve had.

What is your pre-bout ritual?
I eat a big breakfast, play video games for about 3 hours, and totally stress out Party Foul by talking constantly about how nervous I am about the game until she has to leave the house or starts drinking.

What advice do you have for other skaters?
Watch lots and lots of derby.

What is your favorite food?
Cereal.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of Derby?
Trail running.

If you could remove one penalty from the game what would it be?
Stand still blocking.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Tony Hawk or Adrian Brody. Or the singer from Golgol Bordello.

You can see Jagged Little Will in action on July 21st when the 2012 Turf Wars continue as the South Grand Slammers take on the Dogtown Rockets in what is likely to be a preview of the 2012 Turf Wars Championship. The opening bout will be a women’s expo bout of Superheroes vs. Villains.

Don’t forget that the 2012 Men’s Roller Derby Association Championships will take place right here in St. Louis on October 20th and 21st. Gateway to the Best will feature the top eight teams in the MRDA battling it out at the Midwest Sports Hockey Complex with the last team standing being crowned 2012 MRDA Champions! Tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate right now at Brown Paper Tickets! But you better act fast as the price will increase as we get closer to the event!

See you at the bouts!
