GateKeepers defeat Magic City 240 - 114!
Two of the top five MRDA teams took to the track Saturday night as the #2 St. Louis GateKeepers took on the #4 Magic City Misfits in a hard-hitting affair. The GateKeepers came out swinging and never looked back as they raced to a 240 - 114 win over Magic City. In the opening bout of the double-header, the Arch Rival Roller Girls took down the New Jax City Rollers by a score of 202-132! You can read Muckety Muck’s recap of the ladies’ action right HERE!
TJ Binkley started off the bout on the line for Magic City and he faced off against Magnum, P.I.M.P. The second the first whistle blew the blocking units for both teams went at it. Both jammers had to work hard to get free of the pack and while Magnum got free firs, TJ was not far behind and that forced Magnum to call off the jam after scoring only one point. The next four jams were disastrous for the Magic City Misfits as while Jeremy Strecker was able to grab lead jammer at the beginning of the second jam of the game, he was sent off for a track cut and Debaucherous Prime went to work racking up eighteen points before Jeremy Strecker returned to play. Jeremy managed to grab four points before his trip to the box and four more after before the jam came to its two-minute time limit. Mike Cowart fared no better as he picked up back to back penalties for Magic City allowing the GateKeepers to put an addition twenty-seven points on the board. That span could have been a lot worse if not for the great blocking by the Magic City squad. Magic City would pick up two more jammer penalties during the second half allowing the GateKeepers to quickly seize momentum and then they got really physical in the packs. The GateKeepers’ jammer line-up of Magnum, Prime, Shanego and Knocks played fast and clean as they accrued not a single jammer penalty in the first half and were able to take a huge 163 - 55 lead into the locker room at the half.
The second half was a slightly different story, but had the same basic result. The Magic City jammers played much cleaner not picking up a single penalty, but the GateKeepers defensive schema was up to the task while the GateKeepers’ jammers went to work. Magic City did get two power jams in their favor and while Chuck Best and Jeremy Strecker combined on one via a star pass for twenty points, the second power jam was for naught as the GateKeepers defensive line of Hulk, Percy, Sweet Tooth and The Saint did not allow a single point. That penalty kill was the proverbial nail in the coffin as the GateKeepers continued to put points up a few here and a few there. The GateKeepers never let Magic City build any kind of momentum to get back into the game. On the final jam, Magnum, P.I.M.P. grabbed lead jammer and slowly skated around turn one and two and waited for the clock to hit 0:00 and then called off the jam to end the game with the score GateKeepers 240, Magic City 114.
