B-Keepers victorious over Ozarks Derby Brigade 272 - 71.
St. Chux Derby Chix fall to Springfield 148 - 103.

It was another great night of derby action in the St. Louis Metro area as the St. Chux Derby Chix hosted the Hoedown Showdown at Matteson Square Garden in St. Peters. The B-Keepers pushed their record to 2 - 0 by defeating the Ozarks Derby Brigade 272 - 71 while the hometown Chux Chix fell to the Springfield Roller Girls 148 - 103 in a tight one.
The Ozarks Derby Brigade was itching for a rematch after the B-Keepers took it to them on their home turf in Springfield last month, but sometimes you better be careful what you wish for as the swarm was ready to go for Saturday night’s bout.
The B-Keepers were proud to unleash their three newest members upon ODB Saturday night as Daddy Frogg, Mad Hacker and Happie Meal all made their bout debuts. Sweet Tooth also managed to sneak onto the B-Keepers roster for some fun in front of the ladies he coaches.
The first half was all about Jammer penalties. Both teams’ Jammers were very sloppy in the first fifteen minutes of the first half as ODB racked up three jammer penalties and Skulls McCrackin of the B-Keepers jammed five jams in a row due to being sent to the box again pretty much as soon as he re-entered play. After that the teams settled down as they realized the ref staff was calling this one tight and was not going to put up with any shenanigans. The defense of the B-Keepers was stout and did not allow ODB to capitalize on those power jams and went into the half up by a score of 134 - 51.
ODB would fare no better in the second half. Much like the last meeting between these two teams, the B-Keepers used stifling defense along with patient jamming to pick apart ODB. The Saint had another amazing evening racking up an amazing 117 points as the B-Keepers cruised to a 272 - 71 victory over The Ozarks Derby Brigade.
Scoring:
B-Keepers: The Saint - 117; Oodles of Brutal - 60; Skulls McCrackin - 48; Specs Offender - 27; Talahassee Toad - 19; Holden U’Backs - 1
Ozarks Derby Brigade: Hoss - 28; Vehicular Sodomy - 19; Hugh Jorgan - 13; Surehit Holmes - 11
The main event of the evening featured two red-hot teams as the newly WFTDA-christened Springfield Roller Girls came to town to take on the St. Chux Derby Chix. Springfield has been making a splash in WFTDA play by showing the league that they belong and they could have some say in the way the South Central division plays out. The Chux Chix have been equally hot as they were 5 - 0 going into this bout and have been playing excellent derby while missing many of their starters.
In the first half, the Chux Chix came out strong capitalizing on a couple of power jams to pull out to a 63 - 47 lead with only a few minutes left in the first half; but then AmTastic for the Springfield squad went nuts and led Springfield to a 65 - 63 lead to end the half.
The Chux Chix had a lot to be pleased with as they took it to Springfield for the majority of the first half and had to feel like they could take this bout. Both teams came out of the locker rooms firing on all cylinders as they traded blows back in forth in the first few jams, but Springfield slowly began to establish dominance and slowly started to pull away. On the seventh jam of the second half, Springfield took a 77 - 74 lead and never looked back. The Chux Chic continued to knock on the door closing the gap to within six a couple of times, but Springfield was not to be denied on this night as they pulled away in the waning moments of the second half and finished the bout with a 148 - 103 win.
On July 23rd the GateKeepers continue their local league season as we have a possible Turf Wars Championship preview as the undefeated Dogtown Rockets face their toughest challenge yet as they face off against the number two South Grand Slammers. The Slammers will be back to full strength as Bat Wing returns from surgery. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets and if you use the code “BOGO” you can get two tickets for $10!
See you at the bouts!
