December Skater of the Month: Zombie Jesus!

[1 Dec 2011 | No Comment]

It’s a new month and that means a new Skater of the Month!  This month it is Zombie Jesus!  A travel team member since the team’s inception, Zombie Jesus’ passive blocking skills and track awareness are a sight to see.  Zombie Jesus won the “Dogtown Rockets’ Best Blocker” award for 2011 and is the epitome of the “blue collar” style of derby that the GateKeepers play.  His play rarely stands out in the pack, but that is only because he is not a flashy player.  He plays solid defense with a …

November Skater of the Month: Bat Wing

[1 Nov 2011 | No Comment]

One of the founding fathers of the St. Louis GateKeepers (along with Magnum p.i.m.p.), Bat Wing’s skating skills, intensity and knowledge of the game make him a force on and off the track.  His dedication is second to none as he commutes from Rolla twice a week (a roughly 110 mile commute each way) for practice.  He also recently joined the coaching staff of the CoMo Derby Dames in Columbia Missouri, is one of the main forces behind Missouri Co-Ed Roller Derby LLC (MOCORD) and the annual Beat Me Halfway …

October Skater of the Month: Percy Controll
Not only does he sport one of the best names in roller derby, he is an all-star blocker and one of the leaders of the South Grand Slammers.  The Slammers just took home the first ever Turf Wars championship and Percy Controll earned MVP honors for his blocking during that bout.  His ultra-smart pack-play combined with his bone-crushing hits make him a valuable addition to the GateKeepers’ arsenal.
He is:  Percy Controll!
Why did you get into derby?
Two words: ANA WARPATH. One of my favorite people. …

The Slammers take the title by stunning the Rockets with a final score of 137 – 106.  In the expo bout the Leotards beat the Granny Panties 97 – 70.
It may have been chilly and dreary outside Saturday night, but inside the Midwest Sports Hockey Complex at Queeny Park the action was hot and the crowd was electric.  You could feel it in the air and the crowd knew they were in for an action-packed night of amazing derby action.  Not only were they going to see an epic battle …
